The work of architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the Grand Palais Ephémère is to replace the “Grand Palais” for the duration of the restoration work.

It will host for 3 years the major exhibitions that usually took place in the nave of Henri Deglane, symbol of the Grand Palais.

On the Champ de Mars, in front of the Ecole Militaire and in line with the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Palais Ephémère is built on the traditional site of the great “Universal Exhibitions” of the past. It was inaugurated on June 12, 2021.

This space of 10,000 m², "eco-responsible", made up of a spruce wood structure, opposite the Military School and recalls the volume of the Grand Palais. It is covered on the outside with a transparent polymer fabric. 44 wooden arches already pre-assembled were erected in 3 months on site. They take up the curvature of the arch of the Eiffel Tower. "The light connects the Trocadéro, the Eiffel Tower, the Ecole Militaire. We didn't break the perspective" says Jean-Michel Wilmotte, thus creating an astonishing play of light.

The Military School is reflected in the entrance facade. Through the other facade you can admire the Eiffel Tower in the axis of the building. Still in place for the Olympic Games, the Ephemeral Grand Palais will host certain disciplines, before being dismantled and probably sold in pieces provided for this purpose. The company GL-évents carried out this project.
